Derby Tailor Studio makes jeans to your measure in Chennai. We measure you, read how you stand and sit, adjust our own patterns for the Indian body to you, and cut your trial in the denim you chose.
Denim is the hardest cloth to fit. It shrinks after washing, and it has no grade to hide a flaw. So it has to be engineered to the body. Derby has worked with denim for over three decades.
How are tailored jeans priced?
It depends on the denim and the finish. The studio takes you through it at your Style Consultation, before you commit to anything.
Why do ready jeans fit five men five different ways?
Because a size is one number, and your body is many. Two men with the same waist can differ in seat, thigh, rise and the way they stand.
A tailored pair starts from those measurements instead of the waist alone. That is why it sits right at the back, stays put at the waist and has room where you need it.
How are tailored jeans made?
In four moves: a Style Consultation, a measurement, a trial in your own denim, and corrections before we finish.
The consultation covers where you will wear them, the fit you like, and what has never fitted you in a pair of jeans. We measure you and watch how you move. Your trial is cut in the real denim, so you judge the real pair. Every correction is kept in your Fit Record.
Can a heavier build get jeans that fit?
Yes. This is where tailored jeans earn their place. The rise, seat and thigh are set from your measurements, so you stop choosing between a waist that fits and thighs that do not.

Selvedge, rigid, stretch or knitted: which denim?
Pick by how you live in them. Rigid denim moulds to you over time. Stretch gives you room to move from the first day. Knitted denim feels close to a knit and suits long days. Japanese selvedge is woven on narrow shuttle looms and ages the most character.
In Chennai heat, a lighter weight wears easier through the day. We will show you the cloth in the studio.
I don't live in Chennai. Can I still get them?
Come to a studio once for your consultation and fitting. After that, your Fit Record holds your pattern, so re-orders do not need a new measurement while it is current.
