Made-to-measure and bespoke suits in Chennai
Derby Tailor Studio makes suits in Chennai two ways. Luxury made-to-measure, at Mount Road and Shanti Colony, starts from our own patterns for the Indian body and adjusts them to you. Vijay Kapoor True Bespoke, at Mount Road, draws a new pattern from you alone.
Either way, your trial is cut in the cloth you chose. You judge the real suit before it is finished.
How is a suit priced?
It depends on the garment and the cloth. The studio takes you through it at your Style Consultation, before you commit to anything.
How does a made-to-measure suit work?
You come in for a Style Consultation, we measure you, and you try the suit in your own cloth before we finish it.
The consultation is a conversation first. What you need, where you will wear it, and what has never fitted you well. Then we look at how you stand and move, and talk you through the cloth and the options that suit you.
Your trial is cut in the real cloth. We correct what needs correcting, then finish it. Every correction goes into your Fit Record, so the next suit starts where this one ended.
Made-to-measure or bespoke: which one do you need?
They differ in how the pattern is made. Made-to-measure adjusts our own patterns, made for the Indian body, to your measurements, posture and style. True Bespoke draws a new pattern from you.
True Bespoke runs in eight steps: conversation, understanding, cloth, pattern, cut and craft, fitting, finishing, continuity. It takes one to three fittings, and around 60 to 70 hours of a master's work goes into one suit.
Neither is better. They are two ways of making clothes. The right one depends on what you want from the suit, your timeline and how much craft you want in it.
Can you make my wedding suit?
Yes. Both services can dress a wedding, from the groom to the whole family.
Which one fits depends on the principal's needs, the size of the group, the timeline and the level of craft you want. Talk to us as early as you can. The timeline often decides the service.
We also make bandhgalas, blazers, shirts and trousers, so one studio can dress every function.
Where does the cloth come from?
From mills across the world. We narrow it down to the few that suit where you will wear the suit, your working day and the occasion in front of you.
In Chennai heat, that usually means lighter wools and linen for daytime, and finer wools kept for the evening and for ceremony.

Yes, while your Fit Record is current. A significant change in body or style is reviewed before we cut.
